Fishing Report – Jan 14, 2012

Happy New Year!  Fishing has been pretty decent overall and with the water dropping after the massive amount of rain, the river is in great shape.  Fresh fish are entering daily and eager to bite.  Most days have fish biting throughout the day so it keeps everyone on their toes.  Nice hatcheries as well as some wild fish coming in off the tides and have sea lice on them so they are hours from entering the system.  The fishing goes on for the next couple months with both the upper and lower rivers having fish throughout.  If you are thinking of heading over to fish the Stamp, give us a call or e-mail.  You can also find us on Facebook under West Coast River Charters. 1-250-723-0136 or 1-250-720-5449 or e-mail at nick@westcoastrivercharters.ca

Looking forward to fishing with you.

Winter Steelhead fishing has been good with nice fishing coming in.  Numbers should continue to build as conditions are perfect for Steelhead to enter the system.  Crowds have been very minimal to date so that is always great for fishing. What a great gift for the holidays to get out on the river fishing out of our heated jet boats.  We put you in the spots and you try your luck for these chrome beauties.  We take all the hard work out of fishing and you can truly enjoy covering the river with West Coast River Charters.  Bookings are available so call today. 1-250-723-0136 or 1-250-720-5449. Looking foreword to fish with you.

Fishing Report – Winter Steelhead 2011 – 2012

Posted by nick on Dec 2, 2011 in Fishing Reports | 0 comments

The winter steelhead season is underway and I am pleased to see things shaping up for the months to come. There is a good mix of winter and summer runs in the river from top to bottom with the main run of fresh ones from the falls down and the bulk of summer runs in the upper river above the falls. December offers some great action with fish coming in everyday and with water conditions leveling off it gives us some planning where we fish each day. For multiple day trips if you want to check out the lower and upper river we are able to fish above the Ash confluence till December 31st. Dates are beginning to drum up interest and you won’t want to miss out on memories the Stamp has to offer. We offer groups for 6 anglers with our 18 and 17 foot jet boats powered by Suzuki outboards. Top quality equipment ensures hassle free fishing. For lower water levels later in the season or bigger groups our brand new 16ft Willie drift boat will get the job done. Call today to plan your trip. Steelhead fishing is well underway. Salmon are spawning heavily so there is lots of food rolling along the river bottom. A good mix of hatchery and wild fish are in and they are in prime shape and eager to jump on the line. If you haven’t booked your day to hit the river, give us a call. Don,t forget about the winter runs that will be heading in just around the corner starting in December. Looking forward to fish with you. Nick Hnennyj. 1-250-723-0136 or1-250-720-5449.

Fishing Report – September 27, 2011

Posted by nick on Sep 28, 2011 in Fishing Reports | 0 comments

Hi everyone.  I would like to start first with an apology for not getting more fishing reports online for you to read.  I have been booked very solid for the entire month of September thanks to the overwhelming support and loyalty of my  customers.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support.  Without you, none of this would be possible!

I’ll try and make up for the lack of a fishing report by showing you a fishing report in the form of a monster post of pictures from the past 2 weeks.  In the pictures you will see chrome, and I mean CHROME Coho.  Monster Spring Salmon.  Beautiful Steelhead and the occasional Cutthroat Trout.  Fishing has been amazing.  As of September 15, the bait ban expire of the lower portions of the river and that fishing has been HOT!  The river levels have remained great as we haven’t experienced too much rain as of late.  The past few days the river came up quite a bit, but with clear weather on the horizon the river is already dropping.  A lot of our success comes from the use of roe.  We cure our own roe in house and the recipe is no secret.  Hot pink wool with a #2 red Gamakatsu hook has also been deadly.

Thanks again everyone!

Tight lines,

Nick

Fishing Report – August 9, 2011

Summer steelhead are in the river and recent trips have brought a few to the boat. Nice hatcheries and wild fish are coming in with Sockeye and some early Chinook and Coho. The river will be in full swing by month’s end as retention for Salmon typically begins on the 25th. This year’s runs of Chinook and Coho look to be giving up some great fishing. A few dates are still open into October and the season will be here before you know it. You won’t want to miss out on some great fishing. Call to book your trip today!

Looking forward to fish with you!

Somass River Sockeye Fishing – Port Alberni BC, June 26, 2011

Posted by nick on Jun 28, 2011 in Fishing Reports | 0 comments

This past weekend saw some large schools of Sockeye Salmon making their way through the tidal waters of the Somass river.  The river level has come down quite a bit over the last few days making for ideal conditions.  With the warming weather we have been seeing more of lately, it made fishing the river a real treat.  Lots of fish were caught over the weekend and the fishing just keeps getting better.  It is quite possible that this years Sockeye return could be close to 1 million fish, up from the 600,000 it was estimated to be.

There are still prime fishing dates available so make sure you get in touch with us to secure your trip.

Tight lines,

Nick

A great couple days while fishing the Somass and Stamp Rivers with lots of Sockeye and some Summer Steelhead trickling in. We are starting to see the river showing fish  most of the day with some great tides to influence a good migration cycle.  Check back for more updates as we will be out almost daily.  The fall fishery is heavily booked but dates are still available for Chinook, Coho, Steelhead and the season looks very promising all through the Summer into November.  Call today to book your trip! nick@westcoastrivercharters.ca or 1-250-723-0136 or 1-250-720-5449

Sockeye in the river. Getting ready for trips to get going. Had a pretty decent morning getting into a few. Good schools coming by with the bulk coming in as we were having to leave. Sorry, I forgot the camera.
